There’s a lot of noise around wedding trends. Should you follow them? Should you not? Are you basic if you do? Are Basque waist dresses the new mason jars??
As a Chicago wedding photographer, I’m here to set something straight: your wedding should feel like you… Whether it’s super trendy or not trendy at all. If something is speaking to you, follow it!! Let’s dive into some of the 2027 wedding trends that I’m starting to see allll over Pinterest, so that you can curate a wedding design that actually speaks to who you are, not the girl you’re seeing all over TikTok.

If they feel like you, hell yeah you should.
My personal opinion as a Chicago wedding photographer? Follow what feels true. So many people are caught up in creating a wedding that feels timeless, and they’re missing out on the things that make them happy right now, and if I’m being real… That’s not my vibe. Pick the damn chartreuse and burgundy color palette if it makes you happy! Go for the wedding dress that might look a little outdated in 10 years! Plan your wedding for the current you, not the future you, babes.

If you’re here, you’re probably a little funky and want something ultra-unique. And if that’s true… You’re my kinda people. Because as a Chicago wedding photographer, I know that the best weddings are the ones that feel different. The ones that are made with your specific vibe and your funky little brain in mind.
Here are the trends I’m loving that you’ll be obsessed with if you want something elevated and artsy:
My favorite 2027 wedding trend? Seeing couples pick what they actually want. Not deciding on things straight from Pinterest, but putting their own spin on it. Fun venues, guest activities, hand-written letters to each guest… You name it, and I love it.

Having your guests wear their funky best is a trend that I won’t be getting over anytime soon. I mean, guests in something like this hot pink feather dress or this green vintage fringe dress?? Not only does it make for photos that scratch my photographer brain, but it’s also just fun.

In the bridal fashion world, we’re seeing a shift towards a lot of drama, and yeah… I’m so here for it. I want you to have a ball gown that makes everyone stay 6 feet away from you, if that’s your kinda look.
Wedding dresses with any sort of unique shapes, unique fabrics, interesting waistlines, corsets, or funky elements are rising in popularity, and I personally am thrilled about it. I love:

All things whimsical are in, and this look is living rent-free in my brain. Think where Alice in Wonderland meets a pastel garden party, and you’re right on the money.
There’s been a huge shift to elopements and intimate weddings ( you can see why), and I don’t see that trend going anywhere. People are loving having smaller gatherings that feel more personal, where they get to actually talk to their guests, not just wave at them from afar, then yell at them over the reception music.

Lace and metallics and feathers and tulle are everywhere, and the way that it elevates a wedding day is unmatched. In 2027, we’ll be seeing a lot of textured wedding dresses (like Reko by Watters), lace decor, and silver everythinggg.

Traditional cake cuttings are on their way out, and we’re having full-blown dessert moments instead. A couple blowing out cake candles or topping their cakes with fruit or powdered sugar is so in, and I personally adore the unique spin on an old wedding tradition.

Amaranth is kind of everywhere, as it should be. I mean, it’s so gorgeous, adds texture to bouquets, and makes even the most simple bouquet look super luxe. If you’ve been on Pinterest in the last 6 months… Yeah. You’ve seen amaranth bouquets.
We’re not stopping at bridal bouquets, though. Florals are the it-girl decor for 2027 weddings, and they’re being used in interesting ways that honestly make my heart sing. Grounded florals, hanging florals, huge floral centerpieces… Gimme!!

Unique colors are everywhere in the wedding world. Chartreuse and burgundy make the dominating color palette this year, but the spunk behind them is staying the same, and as someone who loves all things funky… I’m loving it. Here are a few color palette ideas for 2027 weddings that I’m obsessed with:

Your wedding is your whole main character moment, so I’m all for you going alllll out for it. A personalized wedding logo that’s all over your decor? Love.

Content creators have been on the rise for couples to get BTS content of their day. They work alongside photographers and videographers to make content specifically for social media in tiny little snippets, and as someone who’s all about capturing memories, I have to say that I love this trend dearly. Too much content from your wedding? Yeah. Sounds made up.

Kind of in the same sense, documentary-style wedding photography is here to stay. People are craving having their real, human moments captured. The perfect and the imperfect. The happy tears when you’re walking down the aisle. You hugging your grandma at dinner. Your best friend fixing your hair when you’re getting ready. And as a Chicago wedding photographer who captures all kinds of days in this way… You know I’m obsessed.

Can’t resist the trends? I feel that. Hard.
Luckily, all of these trends are so easy to make your own. For color palettes, find complementary shades for each of your favorite colors. For venues, choose somewhere that has elements you both love (here’s a list, if you need ideas).
As long as you’re planning a wedding that feels like the inside of your brain, using trends vs not using trends doesn’t matter at all.
