As someone with a little bit of a rad soul and a groovy vibe, I’m not the one to recommend a boring, basic spot for your Chicago engagement photos. I want your real personality to shine, not have you standing in front of me just smiling for the camera. I’m a Chicago engagement photographer who loves all things a little funky, a little vintage, and a little off-beat, and if that sounds like you… These Chicago engagement photo locations are gonna be right up your alley.

If you want engagement photos that feel cinematic AF and just really cool, the Art Institute is your place. Photos here always feel like stills from a movie, and they have me seriously unwell. They’re unique, but classy, and they just feel incredibly romantic. Date night who?
Seriously, though, this is the spot for the artsy couple. The ones who can get lost looking at a painting for hours. The ones whose Letterboxd four faves are probably movies other people haven’t even heard of.
If you’re planning a shoot here and wondering what to wear around all the colors of the art, I’ve got you. Neutrals plus a pop of color is a combo that always works here, like a white mini dress with a colorful shoe (love these Charlotte Stones) and your lover in an outfit that complements one of those colors.
Note that for engagement photos here, you’ll need to pay the admission fee ($20-32), but no permit is required, which honestly just makes it even better.

Trivoli Tavern invented rustic charm. Dim lighting, delicious cocktails, and smooth jazz make this a great spot for engagement photos that feel a little upscale. The photos you get here give swanky rich aunt and uncle in like, the best way. And isn’t that always the goal?
This one is the place where you’ll get fancied up in something like this jacquard dress from Zara with some sheer gloves, have a cocktail or two, and hide away in a booth like you’re on the cutest, classiest date of all time. And yeah, the pictures turn out insane.

The University of Chicago has one of the most gorgeous college campuses I’ve ever seen in my life, genuinely. The stone buildings and the wide-open fields make some of the best Chicago engagement photo locations in the city, and if I’m honest, it’s especially great in the fall with a plaid coat and some brown boots.
If you’re the type of couple who’s pretty homey and wants a little bit of class and a little bit of rom-com for their engagement photos… This is the place. There’s something about you two strolling hand-in-hand through the campus that gives Gilmore Girls, and it’s always a 10/10 romance.

Honestly, the Chicago Cultural Center takes my breath away every time I walk in. The stained glass domes are everything, and this space is crawling with architectural and editorial spaces that create the best backdrops for a classy, but cool, engagement shoot.
Leaning heavy into the classic vibe here is always the move with something like the Torin Dress from Reformation with some platform heels. It’s flowy and kind of traditional but still modern and full of personality.
The Chicago Cultural Center also does not require a permit for engagement photoshoots, and it’s free to enter. Beautiful and easy to plan at? Love that.

Neon signs fit the energy incredibly well, and La Salle Flowers has one of the best ones in the city. Not to mention the flowers here? Truly insane. This is one of those street-corner shops that’s just super aesthetic. And the vintage, editorial shots here are so good, then adding in the city street takes it up another level.
This Chicago engagement photo location is a great fit for couples who are a little more laid-back and want more unposed, natural photos than forced ones. And a sweet, soft, romantic outfit kills it here every time.

I’ve taken engagement photos in Chinatown before, and I simply couldn’t love it more. That shoot was edgy but romantic, quirky but authentic, and the energy was completely unmatched. If city street lights and neon literally everywhere is your vibe, let’s go to Chinatown for your Chicago engagement photos immediately.
Natalia wore a leather jacket paired with a white mini dress and some Doc Martens here, and she’s now the poster child for what to wear for your Chinatown engagement photos. The fit was equal parts funky, cool, and so her, and that’s the sweet spot you always want to reach.

Venteux is a French restaurant, and the vibes are exactly what you’d expect. It’s so classy, dimly lit (which, yeah, scratches my photographer brain), and drop-dead gorgeous. The red booths give me life, and I cannot cope with the date night-esque pics we get here.
I love this one with an outfit that has a little bit of vintage elegance, and I always recommend that you guys get some food and drinks off the menu, because the shots we can get of you two feeding each other are always some of my absolute faves.

La La Land who?? The Music Box Theatre is an old cinema with the best lights outside and the cutest vintage feel inside. So if the movie scene from La La Land is your engagement pic inspo… Yeah. This is all yours.
The Music Box Theatre is one of those places that’s classy and gorgeous but still full of personality. Photoshoots here feel like a date night, and that’s honestly the best way to get those sweet little romantic, cinematic pics of your dreams.
My mind goes crazy with ideas for this Chicago engagement photo location (and I’m always happy to share my many, many thoughts), but you could always go 20s movie star style with something like this sequin feather mini dress from Etsy here!

Because subway pictures are always the move.
Seriously though, when we take Chicago engagement photos on or at the CTA, I don’t know what my faves are: the ones of you two smiling at each other while the train is moving behind you, the ones of you two running through an empty station, or the ones actually on the train where you’re sneaking kisses and hand holds. All I know is, I love them every single time.
The CTA is the poster child for cinematic, nostalgic engagement pics. You can genuinely never go wrong with photos here, so if you’re someone who wants something a little casual but still incredibly gorgeous, this is your spot.

There are so many different vibes that the Garfield Park Conservatory can hold really well, and it’s stunning every time. The lush gardens, the greenhouse vibe, and the gorg flowers make this one perfect for the artsy, nature-loving couple, and I’m seriously obsessed.
I always recommend bold colors here because the way it makes you stand out in front of the green is truly insane. Something like the Red Cupid Dress from Selkie (for a cottagecore vibe) or the Deme Dress from Anthropologie (for classy, sleek energy) fits so great here.
Note that this spot does require a permit for engagement photos. You can start filling that application out and find more information about it right here. Always know that as your Chicago engagement photographer, I’m here to help with all these little details!

Okay, Avondale Bowl is crawling with the funky-goodness of my dreams. The neon green, the retro vibes… It’s basically what the inside of my brain looks like.
If you’re a self-proclaimed quirky, groovy, and a little offbeat person, you’ll love this one. The potential for 70s-disco-esque engagement photos here is insane, and I won’t rest until I capture a session like that. I’m picturing a bold, fuzzy jacket (that you probably thrifted, but I’m picturing something like this Abrigo Coat from Revolve), probably some sunglasses, and tons of colors.

If you’re anything like me… You probably love literally all of these. Because I know you want something different, something cool, something a little artsy. And that’s what these are all giving.
At the end of the day, though, making the final choice is about what actually feels like you. Are you a groovy, retro gal or a classy, editorial babe? Do you love flashy, bold colors or something more muted and understated? Wherever you’re going to be most comfortable is the move, because that’s how we’ll get the pictures that actually show off who you are.

If you can’t pick alone, that’s what I’m here for. We’ll chat about what your session would look like at each and every one of these places to help you decide. Because if there’s one thing I love… It’s bringing a vision to life.
