my little corner of inspiration
When I was younger I kept a little journal hidden under my mattress where I would draw and express my creativity, write down my memories, and document my hopes and dreams. It was a safe place for me to express myself without judgment. Now, twenty years later, I am reinventing the little journal I once hid away and sharing it with all of you. Here you will find vulnerability, creativity, and a new found way for me to showcase my work with the world.
I think we can confidently say that over the years we have learned that weddings can be celebrated in a multitude of ways. Whether you travel halfway across the world or just celebrate in an intimate ceremony in your living room. The ideas of marriage and what it means to celebrate your wedding day is different per person, which is something as a Chicago Wedding Photographer that I absolutely love. For Shannon and Dave, what mattered the most was being able to celebrate with their friends and family. It didn’t matter to have the largest wedding on the planet. In fact, what they wanted to celebrate the most was the coming together of two families. Love, joy, and happiness were embodied in this intimate backyard summer Chicago wedding with Shannon and Dave and I got to document each second.
As mentioned before, many couples choose to celebrate their wedding day in their own way. This could even mean having a beautiful intimate-style wedding right in their backyard. However, to some of you who have been planning your wedding day since you were five, you’re probably wondering “why”? There are several benefits when it comes to choosing to have an intimate backyard wedding. Here are just a few.
One of the many reasons Chicago couples choose to have an intimate backyard wedding is all about cost. In the city, but in Chicago specifically, things can get very expensive very quickly. While I’m all for splurging on your special day, for some, this just isn’t in the cards and that’s totally okay! An intimate backyard wedding allows for you to have lower costs on decor, florals, and overall guest experience. A smaller space means a smaller guest list which means in general the cost of your wedding experience significantly drops.
Having an intimate backyard wedding also allows you and your partner to have a bit more intimacy and intentionality. This could be with each other or if you’re just wanting to soak up more time with friends and family. In a larger and more traditional wedding setting, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and not get to greet each and every one of your guests. If you’re a couple wanting to spend as much time as possible with each of your guests and have a much more intentional wedding experience then an intimate backyard Chicago wedding might be your BFF.
Last but certainly not least, having an intimate backyard Chicago wedding allows for you to get creative. Just because your wedding cost may be lowered, doesn’t mean that you have to skimp out on some of your favorite details. Since you have the comfort of your own backyard, you’re not confined to the restrictions of a typical Chicago wedding venue. Instead, you can get creative and really do whatever the heck you want. YASSS!
Shannon and Dave’s intimate wedding day started with detail photos and some intimate time with friends and family as they both got ready. Shortly after they had a very emotional first-look moment, seriously tears were flowing left and right. In an intimate, short, and sweet backyard ceremony, Shannon and Dave exchanged their vows and became Mr. and Mrs. Surrounded by all of their close family and friends, it was an intimate backyard summer Chicago wedding dream come true. The night was spent partying, eating some real good cake, and soaking in that newlywed bliss that just radiated off S+D.
Congratulations you two and wishing you both a lifetime full of happiness!
